In the Days of Ice Cream

Remembering all things Ice Cream

Sunday, July 16th was National Ice Cream Day in the U.S.
A little Ice Cream History
In the above CNN article, you&';ll learn that during the Prohibition, Breweries in the U.S. made Ice Cream instead of alcohol. You&';ll also learn that in 1986, the average American ate 18 lbs of Ice Cream. And, there&';s some other fascinating things in that article.
At first I thought they meant 18 lbs per day, but they meant per year. My average back then was as much as I could get.
The International Dairy Association says the current average is 20 lb/year. They also say that&';s about 4 gal. Great Answer.com says there are about 32 scoops per gallon of Ice Cream. So, that&';s 128 scoops of Ice Cream. At 3 scoops for supper dessert each day, that&';s about 45 days. I could have easily averaged 1000 scoops per year.
Now, I&';m off sugar. That means I rarely eat Ice Cream, because sugar is a main ingredient. I still remember it fondly though and enjoy it when I can find unsweetened Ice Cream.

In my 119th book In the Days of Ice Cream Grandpa finds himself in a similar situation. He can no longer eat Ice Cream, but that&';s because nobody else believes it ever existed. Well, nobody except his Grandson Bobby. It&';s all they ever talk about. And, you can&';t make Ice Cream now because there&';s no such thing as cream or sugar anymore.
Enjoy Grandpa remembering all about Ice Cream. Enjoy him and Bobby scheming and trying to figure out how not to get into trouble, this time.

What would you do in a world without Ice Cream?
